A revolution was ignited in early 19th century when Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati lighted ideas illuminating thought and radical social ideas illuminating the Indian Mind. Thus was born the Dayanand Aglo Vedic (D.A.V.) moment under the auspices of Arya Samaj the foundation for the present vast network of D.A.V. institutions.
The year 1982 is the most memorable year in the history of D.A.V. Model School. Precisely in April 1982 the school was born and came into existence. After having gone through a long period of 25 eventful years making an exceptionally unprecedented progress. D.A.V Model School celebrated its well deserved “silver jubilee” in the year 2007. The name of Dr. Radha Krishan Thakur, a creative genius, an eminent educationist, a leading social worker, is the sole architect andfounder of the school.
Dr. Thakur had conceived the Nobel idea of creating an institution with a difference, a role model public school where in addition to bookish knowledge of science and literature, education means the teaching of character building, self confidence, respect for elders, service to humanity, responsibilities of a citizen, awareness of modern development, learning of computer science, a command over international language English, training in material art and yoga for a mentally agile and physically strong personality.
The goals set were difficult and these were coupled with practically no resources at his command in the form of space, building, infrastructure or the fund needed to make any meaningful beginning. It is only through his will power and determination, he made a beginning by arranging some meagre funds through charity and donation and the school saw its humble beginning in April 1982 with two rooms to accommodate nearly 20 children with 2 classes and a staff of 4 teachers. The school kept on rising by adding a new class every year till the year 1993. The year 1993 was a major milestone in the history of the school when it sought recognition by the Delhi administration up to the middle classes.
Another important year for the school was 1995 when it saw its upgradation to secondary level. This could only be achieved because of enormous efforts of the Members of The Managing Committee, Principal, Staff and Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi.
Starting from a building of 2 classrooms in the year 1982, we have today 36 spacious classrooms which are equipped with modern furniture and required fixtures. The school also has a spacious library, music room, art and craft room, indoor game room, assembly hall, staff room, practical labs etc. We hope to soar high in the years to come.
